Our vision at the Department of English is, first of all, to see that students are not stripped off their dignity just because they cannot speak the language with an RP accent. As teachers of English over years, we are aware of how flexible the language is and take extra care how not to penalize a student for the eccentricities of the language. At the same time, the department envisions that students should develop love for the language, shedding any carry-forward baggage about the “foreignness” of it – it’s a core obligation of the department. As a step towards progressive academics and open teacher-student interface, students have been granted anonymity to put in their evaluation of the academics and suggestions for cure, if any.
